FROM STORYBOARDS & CONCEPT ART TO FILM MAKING:

by Raúl da Silva/IMDb.

Sylvain’s formative years as an illustrator were mentored by the late world-renowned graphic novel artist Jean « Mœbius » Giraud.

Sylvain walked his first steps in design and commercial art direction at New York’s prestigious BBDO advertising agency, in Phil Dusenberry’s creative group where for a number of years, he contributed to the design of TV ads for clients including Pepsi, Gillette, American Airlines, and General Electric.
In Hollywood, he created storyboards for director David Fincher on Madonna’s Like a Prayer music video sessions, and worked side by side with Pop Star Michael Jackson on concepts for his videos in the lead up to the release of the album Dangerous.

In the late ’90s, Sylvain was hired by A-list director Ridley Scott (Scott Free/Black Dog/RSA,) and for a decade, remained a frequent contributor to his art departments on a number of projects in development, feature films, and commercials.

Over the last three decades, Sylvain has contributed his unique style of storyboards and concept art to the work of film directors Brad Bird, Stephen Herek, Roman Polanski, Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton, Alejandro Jorodowsky, Andrei Konchalovsky, J.J. Abrams, Jake Scott, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Mike Newell, Darren Aronofsky, and Sam Mendes, among notable others. His name appears in the credits of many top-grossing motion pictures, most of which lean on a full grasp of Visual Effects techniques and pitfalls, notably Planet of the Apes, The Fifth Element, Harry Potter, The Fountain, Alien Resurrection, and Academy Award winners Gladiator and Black Hawk Down

In 2021, France’s Culture Ministry acknowledged him with a knighthood of the National Order of Merit for his contribution to the advancement of France’s international standing.

Now, Sylvain has begun directing films and documentary films as well as commercials advertising luxury products such as Switzerland’s Patek Philippe.

He is currently producing and directing a full length feature film about the British band Brand X: Brand X: the desert years

He has written two commissioned screenplays including Soul Man, a screenplay optioned at Paramount Pictures.

Sylvain works in Los Angeles, London and Paris.
